August 31, 2013 Xide Flood
For many miles valleys were flooded, houses washed away, animals lost, and
most personal possessions were destroyed. The devastation affected 10’s of
thousands of lives.
High Flood Waters
The flood waters began high in the mountains and gathered strength as valley
after valley flooded.
Blankets
IDEAS purchased 460 bed quilts and distributed them to 265 households.
These households were some of the hardest hit by the flood.
Many Families
Families were selected by the local government.
Cooperative Effort
After the flood the local Xide county government asked assistance from
IDEAS. Through our long standing relationship we were able to provide a
small amount of assistance.
Small but Significant
Even though we were only able to help 265 households, these people were
extremely grateful. With winter bearing down these families had an immediate
need for such a gift.
Heavy Wool
The quilts selected had quality wool batting which provided extra warmth.
Many Smiles
This was a good day for these farming families. Having lost most everything,
they felt glad knowing someone cares.
Rebuilding
Returning “home” with their new quilts. These homes, though damaged by the
flood, were able to be rebuilt. Many still have no roofs.
No Land
Returning home, but with no way to live. Most of these farmers live off their
land, land washed away by the flood. Now all most have is a boulder field.
