Shaluo Village Elementary School Desks
Shaluo village elementary school provides preschool through 6th grade
education for the surrounding village of over 1000 families. Due to the huge
demand for education for China’s 300 million students (the total population of
the US) education district budgets are very limited. Therefore, school
administrators must make hard decisions on how money should be spent.
The desks at Shaluo school are well used and some are beginning to fall
apart. The principal asked if we could help begin replacing the oldest desks.
Thankfully, we found funding to purchase desks and chairs for 160 students in
2 classrooms. This number is still far short of the 650 desks needed, but is a
good start.
Please consider providing one desk and chair for $60 USD.
Delivery Day
Students help carry new desks into their classroom.
Old Benches
These old benches are used for 2 students. Many have been used for too
many years and are falling apart.
Old Desks
The wooden desks are falling apart and many are beyond repair.
Sitting is a Pain
The students do their best sitting on these old wooden benches for hours each
day.
New Improvements
The principal continues to improve the school and the latest is a new
administration and dormitory building.
Water System
The water system we installed a couple years ago is still serving the students
well. The water piping was also extended to the new cafeteria and kitchen, so
now students have access to clean water all day.
In fact, the system is working so well that neighboring families often come fill
their water containers when their old water supply runs dry. It’s the gift that
keeps on giving.
More Old Desks
Most classrooms have these old wooden desks that have outlived their
usefulness. We hope to replace them all over time.
Teacher’s Desk
Teachers are also in need of new desks. They use old student desks instead.
Eager Learners
Even though they must sit on hard wooden benches that are too low for the
desks, these students eagerly attend school and do their best in difficult
situations.
