2017-18 Student Sponsorship
We’re about half way to our goal for next school season’s sponsorship
program. Thank you to all who’ve given already. Our goal is to raise
$10,000 for the upcoming 2017-18 school year and sponsor at least 64
students, have various interactive events, and assist 1 village preschool by
providing various needed supplies.
I would like to invite you to participate in this truly life changing program.
Please consider sponsoring one student with a donation of $156/year or
$13/month.
You can donate at the IDEAS website
www.ideasworld.org/give/
Just note that the gift is for the Nosu Student Sponsorship.
Thank You!
ZeYue Elementary School Clean Water Project
Two upcoming clean water project sites are at schools in desperate need
of clean water. One of those schools is Zeyue township elementary
school.
The school provides preschool, kindergarten, and 1st through 6th grade
education to 385 students from surrounding farming villages. The school
provides dormitory housing of 237 of its students whose homes are too far
away to return home each day.
The school has only one source of water supplied from a distant
unprotected, contaminated mountain stream. The pipe transferring the
water from the spring to the school is too small to meet the daily demand.
In addition, the water is shared by surrounding village families which
further reduces the amount of water available to the school. As a result of
these 2 factors, the school water supply runs short on a daily basis. There
is only sufficient water to cook meals and minimal water for drinking.
Our goal is to build an independent water system for the school that will
meet all of its current and future clean water demands. We have a long
term relationship with the school principal and hope to encourage his work
through this project.
QieTuo Elementary School Clean Water Project
The second school needing clean water is Qietuo township elementary
school. The school provides education for 745 students from surrounding
villages and has almost no water available to the school. The spring
sources they used in past years have mostly dried up and their only other
source is from a seasonal creek that fills up with water after a rain which
washes trash and animal feces directly into the pipeline.
As a last resort, the school carries small containers of water from the
township government office downhill from the school. This amount of
water is only adequate for cooking. Students struggle to find any source of
water to quench their thirst.
We have identified a somewhat distant, but very reliable mountain spring
from which we can pipe clean water to the school. Depending on available
funding, we hope to develop the spring and pipe clean water to the school.
